Pay attention to your own needs. Visit your doctor regularly, and get plenty of rest so you can stay strong. Maintaining your health is essential so you are able to continue caring for the Veteran you care for. Chapter 10 - Taking Care of the Caregiver from Designated Caregiver offers suggestions to caregivers to help them care for themselves because too often care providers ignore their own needs. This may work on the short term basis but it will not last for the long haul. Caring for a Veteran with PTSD can be emotionally draining. You need to take aside special time each day your own basic needs. And listen carefully to your body when it gives you messages.
