Addiction Center - Addiction in the Elderly
According to the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, substance abuse among senior citizens can be classified into two general forms: the “hardy survivor,” or those who have been abusing substances for many years and have reached 65, and the “late onset” group, which is those who form addictions later in life.
Regardless of how old you are or when your addiction started, there are treatment options available to help you get back on a healthy path.
As people get older, their mental health, physical health and personal relationships may start to deteriorate. Although addiction can be difficult to recognize in this demographic, it’s important to pay attention to any unusual signs your elderly loved one displays.
Once an addiction is identified, it is critical to seek out a treatment center that has specific experience working with seniors facing addiction. Call 866-762-9650 to speak to a representative at Addiction Center treatment center.

Addiction Center - Veterans
Many men and women serving or have served in the United States military struggle with addiction. Veterans who have seen combat may have co-occurring disorders, such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, in addition to an addiction.
More than 20 percent of veterans with PTSD also suffer from an addiction or dependence on drugs or alcohol.
Addiction treatment programs that focus on PTSD and addiction simultaneously are most successful for veterans.
If your loved one is struggling with drugs or alcohol, call the Addiction Center treatment center and speak with a therapist. 866-762-9650

As a family member or friend of someone struggling with an alcohol use disorder (AUD), it can be challenging to know how to handle this situation. Watching a loved one’s drinking pattern worsen, may take a toll on your relationship. While you cannot force a person to get help for alcoholism, there are ways to support and encourage them to seek treatment. The best thing you can do for a loved one who is recovering from an AUD is to motivate and support them every step of the way. Caring.com - The Caring.com Scholarship
As the population of older adults continues to grow and life spans lengthen, it is estimated over one million of the younger generation are caring for loved ones such as grandparents or parents. In addition to their caregiving responsibilities, many are also pursuing high school, college or graduate level education. Many assist with some costs for their loved one’s care making it even more difficult to cover their college expenses.
At Caring.com, they understand the demanding lifestyle of student-caregivers and the challenges they may face. The Student-Caregiver Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are caring for an adult relative while enrolled in college.
Two scholarships of $1,500 are awarded each year to student-caregivers to help cover costs of tuition and books. Applicants must be full-time college students at an accredited two-or-four-year college or university in the United States, or full-time high school students who are registered to attend a qualifying institution the following semester.
Information regarding additional scholarships is also available on Caring.com website.

CaringBridge.com - Helps families and friends communicate with each other during hard health issues like critical illness, treatment or recovery. “In 1997, good friends of mine had a premature baby, and they asked me to let everyone know what was happening. Instead of making dozens of emotional and time-consuming phone calls, I decided to create a website. The same night their baby Brighid was born, so was the idea that became CaringBridge.”
Sona Mehring, CaringBridge Founder
Mission: To amplify the love, hope and compassion in the world, making each health journey easier.
That inaugural CaringBridge website allowed people to easily get updates and offer support and encouragement. Word spread, and others began to request their own CaringBridge websites.

Cerebral Palsy Group - Cerebral palsy is a developmental disorder and leading cause of disability in young children. It affects approximately 500,000 children and adults, with around 8,000 babies and between 1,200 and 1,500 preschool-age children diagnosed each year.
Life spans vary for individuals with CP depending on the severity of their case, care from family and/or professional caregivers. The life expectancy for the average population in the United States is 78.8 years. Many patients with mild cases of CP can expect to enjoy a similar life expectancy. However, those with more severe cases might face shortened lifespans because of many factors, such as mobility, ability to communicate, and capacity for interacting with the environment.
Mission: Their goal is to develop and create a website that is both informative and easy to use. It is their hope that they can provide any and all help needed for the parents and caregivers of children and adults with CP.

How They Analyzed The Best Medical Alerts
Monitoring - Arguably the most important factor - companies were favored with their own US-based monitoring centers, those who were UL-listed, and those who were rated by The Monitoring Association.
Equipment - In addition to testing their top systems for response time, durability, and ease of setup/use, also looked at customer-reported reliability and whether the equipment is owned or leased.
Contract & Price - Looked at monitoring, equipment price, replacement costs, and any other possible fees. Providers that had transparent pricing, no gotchas, and the best overall value did well with them.
Reputation/Certifications - Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) and the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) certification bumped up companies in their estimation, as well as emergency medical dispatch certifications.
