CHAPTER 12 – LONG DISTANCE CAREGIVING

Five years ago, Ken and Penny moved their family from Findlay, Ohio to Springfield, Illinois when his company offered him a promotion. Overall, things were going well. Ken enjoyed his career as a computer analysis, Penny obtained an administrative assistant position with a medical facility, and their daughter attended the local community college. They bonded with a strong circle of friends and attended a church the family enjoyed. One fall evening everything changed for Ken when he received a frantic call from his mother asking him to come home. His 78-year-old father suffered a heart attack and was in the hospital in I.C.U.
At that point, Ken realized he needed to make significant life style changes and learn how to be a “long distance caregiver” for his parents.
